Washington, D.C., May 7,
2008 — Out of nearly 10,000 entries, the American Institute of
Architects (AIA) won the 2008 People's Voice Webby Award for the
Americas Favorite Architecture (AFA) website. The AFA web
site was created based on the results of an AIA public poll which
asked Americans to choose their favorite examples of
architecture. The AFA website continued the public conversation by
inviting many more people to share their comments on the importance
of architecture in their lives.
The People's Voice Award is notable given the public selects the
winner from the list of nominees set by the award judges. The Webby
Awards is the leading international award honoring excellence on
the Internet. The Webbys are presented by the International Academy
of Digital Arts and Sciences, a 550-member body of leading Web
experts, business figures, luminaries, visionaries and creative
celebrities.
The original intent of the Americas Favorite
Architecture poll was to increase public awareness of the 150
buildings, bridges, monuments, and memorials that represent the
best of Americas architectural heritage, said AIA
Executive Vice President / CEO Christine McEntee. It is a
tremendous honor to have won this distinction. The fact that the
publics vote has resulted in this award is proof that the AFA
Website has resonated with those interested in learning more about
the finest examples of architecture in the country.
